TURTLES' NEST VILLA - SECLUDED, SOUTH COAST LUXURY HOME IN TREASURE BEACH, JAMAICA

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

Treasure Beach, located in the bread basket parish of St. Elizabeth, captured my heart and soul. The beautiful, quaint and untouched fishing village on the south coast of Jamaica is truly a hidden gem. With the intention of spending a few days in paradise, I pulled up to Turtles’ Nest Villa - a private, beachfront vacation home with incredible mountain and ocean views.

ARRIVING TO THE VILLA

Heading down the driveway towards the two-story villa, I noticed the lush greenery and a sense of peace came over me. I knew it was time to relax. When I got out the car, I was greeted with the biggest and warmest smile from Zeb, the caretaker who immediately made me feel welcome, as if I was a long-lost family member returning home. After exchanging introductions, I stepped inside and the first thing that caught my eye was the straw-thatched star shaped welcome mat which I found quite charming.

SPACIOUS LIVING ROOM

The villa has an extremely spacious open floor plan, boasting a modern chic with a splash of beached themed décor. In the living room, bright abstract paintings and eye-catching photos depicting Jamaican culture adorn the walls and the cutest starfish and seashell cushions lined the couch, calling my name to have a seat and relax.

The living room offers the perfect oasis for a night in, whether to Netflix and chill as there’s a smart TV, hooked up with cable, or strike up a friendly competition playing board or card games with your family and friends, or my personal fav, sip on a glass of wine and curl up on the couch reading a good book. I even fell asleep on the couch for a few hours my first night.

COMFORTABLE BEDROOMS & BATHROOMS

Turtles’ Nest Villa offers three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. The first room downstairs, tucked away to the right, is the Blue Room. It has a queen-sized bed, light blue accent wall with matching modern lamps, spacious walk in closet, an en-suite bathroom equipped with bar soap, mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and oversized, plush towels that smelled amazing! I was obsessed with the overhead rain shower (hot and cold water accessible) that cascaded heavily, simulating the perfect waterfall-like shower. The Blue Room also has sliding doors that lead directly out onto the pool deck area, so you can hop straight from bed to pool!

Also, on the ground level is a half bathroom with a toilet, mirror and sink displaying the same beach-themed vibe with decorative fish ornaments and bright paintings on the wall.

Upstairs are the other two rooms. To the left is the Little Fishes bedroom with double beds and en-suite bathroom, perfect for families with children. Then to the right is the master bedroom with a bamboo-oak styled king-sized bed with soft European cotton sheets, as well as its own en-suite bathroom.

All three rooms are equipped with the same bathroom amenities (described above in the Blue Room), walk in closet, air conditioning, ceiling fan, wide windows offering lush mountain views on one side and stunning ocean and pools views on the other and black out curtains, which I appreciated for the mornings I wanted to sleep in!

What I loved most about the bedroom décor were the colourful stuffed sea animals (my personal fav was the octopus) that enhanced the beach vibe in the rooms and throughout the villa.

P.S. If you have a slightly larger group, there’s also the Little Turtles’ Cottage at the front of the property. This is a smaller cottage annex with a double bed and en-suite shower, as well as a similar beach themed décor, plus views of the mountain.

UNIQUE BAMBOO THATCHED ROOF TERRACE

One of my favorite spots in the villa was the balcony upstairs that overlooks the ocean. Smack between the master bedroom and the Little Fishes bedroom, you’ll find wide sliding doors that lead out onto a uniquely designed, shaded terrace with a bamboo thatched roof. When the warmth of the Treasure Beach sun rays peek through the skinny twigs, it casts a cool and intriguing striped shadow on the terrace floor.

This was my spot. I found it inevitably relaxing, while I soaked in the views of the blue Caribbean Sea, listened to the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach and felt the gentle touch of the cool breeze along my face. As I laid on the bright yellow and white cushioned lounge seats, I couldn’t help but smile, I found paradise.

FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN & PERSONAL CHEF SERVICES

Back downstairs on the ground floor is a fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, pots, plates, cups, utensils … everything you would need to feel at home and prepare your own meals. But if you truly want to just kick back and relax, the villa offers a personal chef cooking service!

This was music to my ears because I’m not a fan of preparing meals while on vacation, so of course I opted for this service and I was not disappointed. Dacia, the chef, is a sweet, down to earth and quite friendly woman who I enjoyed conversations with while she made breakfast and dinner for the three days I stayed at Turtles’ Nest Villa, and let me tell you, “har food tun upppp!” (i.e. her food is really good, absolutely delicious).

For breakfast, I indulged in:

Saltfish fritters, fried dumplings, calaloo, fried breadfruit, saltfish, sausage and baked beans, scrambled eggs, bacon, orange juice and peppermint tea.

And for dinner, I enjoyed:

Oxtail, fried chicken, rice and peas, potato salad, string beans and of course, my drink of choice, Appleton & ginger ale.

Dacia made sure to prepare enough food that I always had leftovers for lunch or a late-night snack, which worked out perfect since I’m a night owl.

P.S. The cooking service is complimentary; however, you must purchase your own groceries or inform Dacia what you would like her to cook and she will purchase the food for you (providing the bill when you arrive). I highly suggest using her services! You won’t regret it.

POOL & HAMMOCK

If you thought this villa couldn’t get more relaxing, think again. Just outside the kitchen, or even from the living room (and remember I mentioned earlier from the Blue Room), you can walk straight out to the pool side patio. Similar to the terrace upstairs, there’s also a bamboo thatched roof gazebo with a picnic table, cushioned lounge seats and a comfortable blue and green hammock that I fell asleep in a few times.

The pool is only about 5 feet deep (perfect for non-swimmers like myself) and I enjoyed a dip or two … okay maybe more, while also lounging on the pool chairs soaking in the warm Treasure Beach sun.

SUN DECK & PRIVATE BEACH

You can also unwind out on the seafront sundeck, a two-minute walk from the pool, offering uninterrupted views of the ocean. The staircase gives direct access onto the beach which is perfect for an early morning or evening walk. The ocean can be a bit rough, so it’s advised not to go swimming when tides are high.
