After 10 days of hosting my Sierra Leone group trip, where we shared culture, stories, and memories that will stay with me and the group forever, I hopped on a flight to celebrate my childhood booski Lindy’s birthday in Turks & Caicos. Our moms have been best friends for years, making Lindy and me practically sisters—so nothing in the world could make me miss such an important day, not even back-to-back flights.
This wasn’t just a trip; it was a celebration of lifelong friendships, amazing food, and unforgettable moments we’ll treasure forever. Here’s how we spent each incredible day in Turks & Caicos:
Day 1: Arrival and Nightlife
Coming off a long flight, I met Lindy and Erica at the airport. Shoutout to the immigration officer who let me skip the long lines so I could join the girls! After retrieving our bags, we hopped into a pre-arranged taxi ($23 per person) and made a pit stop at Sweet T’s for wings and fries that hit the spot.
Our Airbnb? Absolute paradise. A sleek, modern four-bedroom condo with a pool, jacuzzi, and ocean views—it was everything we needed to unwind. After a quick nap, we got ready for dinner. Even though we were late, we charmed our way into a fully booked Coco Bistro reservation. The conch two ways and lobster spring rolls? Chef’s kiss and the warm hospitality made the experience even more special.
The night didn’t end there. We hit up Aziza Restaurant & Lounge and Zanzibar Daquiri Bar & Lounge, dancing the night away to Vybz Kartel and other dancehall favorites. Even a little rain couldn’t stop us—it just added to the magic.
Day 2: Food, Fun, and Festival Vibes
After a much-needed sleep-in, Erica and I woke up to find Lindy and Paula had already started their morning, went for breakfast and did a little grocery shopping. For lunch, we headed to Omar’s Beachfront Restaurant, where the vibe was unmatched. Dining with your feet in the water, live music playing in the background, and a menu filled with curried lobster, fried snapper, oxtail, and more. Paula and I even took a dip in the ocean before sipping cocktails and dancing the afternoon away.
Back at the Airbnb, we chilled by the pool with music and plenty of laughs before getting ready for the evening.
Later that night, we headed out for dinner at Marine Room, an upscale Italian restaurant. The crab pasta and spiny lobster were divine, and the decor was stunning. We turned up at the Sand Jam Festival, featuring Maxi Priest. The mix of soca and reggae had us dancing nonstop, and when the clock struck midnight, we celebrated Lindy’s birthday with shots and plenty of laughter.
Day 3: Lindy’s Birthday in Style
The day started with a homemade breakfast courtesy of Paula—eggs, bacon, bagels, fresh fruit, and mimosas by the pool. It was the perfect start to a day filled with love and celebration.
Next, we treated ourselves to morning massages on the patio, with the sound of the ocean in the background.
Total relaxation mode! In the afternoon, we hopped on a boat and headed to Noah’s Arc, a floating day party that was the highlight of the trip. The DJ gave Lindy nonstop shoutouts, and we danced, popped bottles, and soaked in the incredible vibes.
After a quick nap back at the Airbnb, we dressed in yellow (as requested by the birthday girl) and headed to Infiniti at Grace Bay Club for our final dinner. The beachfront setting, the incredible service, and dishes like wagyu and black cod were so delicious. The birthday girl's cake was literally the icing on top of an amazing dinner and the staff surprised Lindy with a personalized serenade, ending the day on a sweet note.
This trip wasn’t just about stunning beaches and delicious food—it was about celebrating the people who matter most and creating moments we’ll never forget. From morning massages to island dancing, Turks & Caicos gave us the perfect mix of relaxation, celebration, and joy, so to the birthday girl and sister I am blessed to have, Happy Birthday!
