REVIEW OF LAS AMAPOLAS - CASITAS AT EL COCAL IN BELIZE

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

It was my first trip to Central America and my excitement was through the roof! I had always been obsessed with Belize because of Madonna’s song, “La Isla Bonita” where she talked about San Pedro. So I was ready to fall in love with the island!

ARRIVAL IN SAN PEDRO & AIRPORT PICK UP

I landed in San Pedro Town, after a quick and breathtaking 15-minute flight from Belize City, ready and excited to start my five-day vacation. As soon as I exited the small plane and walked a few steps to the arrival area, I saw my name on a small white board, held by a young gentleman with the warmest smile, “Welcome to Las Amapolas, Lisa Shakespeare”.

Dressed in a turquoise shirt branded Las Amapolas and khaki pants, the gentleman introduced himself as Eiden. He welcomed me to the island, picked up my bags and walked towards a golf cart. From my perplexed look, he explained that the main mode of transportation in San Pedro was by golf cart, which I was somewhat aware of but did not realize the extent until we headed into the main town. I saw golf carts everywhere!

GOLF CART RENTAL & DRIVE TO LAS AMAPOLAS

With the help of Eiden, I rented my own golf cart from Rock’s Golf Cart Rentals and before heading to Las Amapolas, he showed me around town, so I could become familiar with the area, best places to eat and all the hot spots to hang out. I immediately fell in love with San Pedro and couldn’t wait to start exploring.

We then headed to Las Amapolas, which is located about 4.5 miles north from the town, a 30-minute golf cart drive. It seemed far and I was quite nervous that I wouldn’t remember the route on my own, but I quickly realized that it was just one straight road, once you cross the bridge. It’s almost impossible to get lost.

LAS AMAPOLAS - CASITAS AT EL COCAL

I had the pleasure of being hosted at Las Amapolas - Casitas at El Cocal and it did not disappoint. As we pulled up to the property on our golf carts, white sandy beach, swaying coconut trees and a hint of turquoise blue barrier reef greeted my eyes. It was absolutely beautiful! I literally felt as if I was walking through paradise. Hammocks danced to the wind between palm trees and the pier with straw-thatched huts that led out to the Caribbean Sea had my name written all over it, to sit back, relax and enjoy the good life.

Not only did the property blow me away with its beauty, but I was quite impressed with the tropical and beach chic decor of the accommodation. I stayed in room 1B, located on the second level of the casita. Two swan-like towels in the shape of a heart with flower petals spread on the plush king-sized bed stole my heart.

The private bathroom came equipped with all the necessities from bath and beach towels to a hair dryer, flashlight, sewing kit, iron and iron board.

There was also a kitchenette which had a microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, toaster, plates, cups and utensils available for use. I also loved the luggage stool where I placed my carry on suitcase and the small clothing rack, where I hung my clothes and bags.

My most favorite part of the room was my very own private balcony! From the sliding doors that open fully on both sides, I couldn’t get enough of the spectacular view overlooking the Caribbean Sea and Belize barrier reef, which is the second largest in the world!

OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE

From the initial stages of booking to my arrival on the island and during my stay until departure, the staff at Las Amapolas were nothing short of amazing. They took care of my every need. I was even provided with a cell phone that I could use to make local calls. The airbnb owner, Gach made me feel extremely special and checked in on me quite often, making sure everything was okay. He even invited me out on his family’s boat for a day of snorkeling and swimming with sharks at Mexico Rocks!

RECOMMENDATION

I was 100% satisfied with my stay at Las Amapolas and highly recommend them if you’re ever visiting San Pedro Town in Ambergris Caye, Belize. It’s the perfect place away from the hustle and bustle, offering quiet time and relaxation.
